The story of wine, in cards

Twelve Georgian grape varieties take you across the country: Rkatsiteli in Kakheti, Chkhaveri in Guria and Tsolikouri in Imereti. Each variety has its own number of cards and scoring table, so every vineyard calls for a different plan.

Illustrated characters and grape varieties give the game its world. Explore the real qvevri tradition and Georgian wine history on our culture page.

Before your first game

How to play

Deal five cards to each player. Each player starts with two vineyards. Keep the cards in your hand in order: your turn starts with the rightmost card. A turn has three phases.

  1. Plant your vineyard

Start your turn by planting the rightmost card in your hand. Each vineyard holds cards of one variety. You may then plant another card of your choice.

  2. Make a deal and trade

Turn over two cards from the shared deck. Plant, trade or give them away. A card received in a trade must be planted immediately, rather than kept in your hand.

  3. Gather your harvest

You may harvest a vineyard for points: the bottom of the card shows how many you earn. Then draw until you have five cards in your hand. Always add new cards on the left.

Action cards change the game: Hail destroys one opposing vineyard, Drought removes one card from each of an opponent’s vineyards, and Swap lets you exchange vineyards with an opponent. The full instructions cover planting restrictions and buying a third vineyard.
